Swargaropithamatha Church

The Ferona Church, dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an ancient and famous pilgrimage site in southern Kerala. Vlathankara is a peaceful and beautiful place in the village of Chenkal, which is caressed and caressed by the waves of the Neyyar River in Neyyattinkara taluk of Thiruvananthapuram district. It is believed that the ancients faithfully called "Vazhathankara" to commemorate the devotees who came daily to bless the Holy Mary, and later became 'Vlathankara'. A permanent church was built by Belgian Carmelite missionaries in 1790 on the land of Vlathankara, which is full of the feeling of a canan land full of fields, coconut groves, ponds and streams. However, historical records show that a prayer community in the name of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary existed here since the mid-16th century.
